CANARY ISLANDS: The Happy Islands

This paradisiac group of islands, enjoying a wonderful climate, with a constant mild temperature through all the year, and splendid beaches of fine sand, consists of 7 larger islands (Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro) and a few smaller ones (Alegranza, Graciosa, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste and Lobos).

Already Greeks and Romans reported on this archipelago of volcanic origins, and called it the Happy Islands, Garden of the Hesperides, Atlantida. Some historians suppose that the legendary continent Atlantis was located here. The islands' original population, commonly called Guanches, is tall and of white skin.

The Map Postcard reminded me about a place called Bukchon Hanok Village.

I was so lucky that I experienced to stay 2 nights in one of the Hanok (traditional korean house), Bukchon Guesthouse.

The experience is remarkable !!

2) In common with other oceanic island systems, the Galapagos Islands are fragile.

3) Human activities cause changes in fragile island ecosystems like the Galapagos

4)Today, there are new demands on the biodiversity of the islands.

5)The Galapagos Islands are a microcosm of the social, political, ecological and economic changes occurring in the world.

First of all, I would like to thank you to Michelle for sending me this beautiful Greeting from Florida.

She also wrote to me some facts about Florida :)

• Florida is not the southern most state, Hawaii is far the south
• There are 1,197miles of coastline in the state
• The state Flower is Orange Blossom
• The highest point in Florida is 345 feet
• The state Bird is the mockingbird
• Punta Gorda is 167 miles northwest of St Augustine (which is the oldest city & oldest port in the US and one of the prettiest too)
• 133 miles from Orlando (where Mickey Mouse lives)
• 330 miles south of Tallahassee (State Capital)

According to Tham, Ayutthaya is about 1 hour drive from Bangkok. The city is a former-capital of Thailand for 317 years !!.
